Jacksonville Woman Sues Krystal Restaurants for Racial Discrimination

JACKSONVILLE, FL [October 7, 2024] – Attorney Gil Sanchez filed a lawsuit on behalf of Shanika Saffold, a Jacksonville resident, against Krystal Restaurants, LLC for denial of service based on racial discrimination.

Saffold purchased food at a Krystal restaurant in Jacksonville on August 2, 2024, and discovered it was moldy. When she attempted to return the food, the restaurant manager used a racial slur and refused to provide a refund – violating her contractual rights because of the color of her skin.

The manager’s actions violated her rights under 42 U.S.C. §1981, a federal law that prohibits denial of service against consumers based on racial discrimination. Saffold is seeking damages for economic losses, emotional distress, humiliation, and punitive damages.

“This lawsuit is about ensuring that all customers are treated with respect and

dignity, regardless of their race,” said Gil Sanchez, Esq. of Black Rock Trial Lawyers, LLC, who represents Saffold. “We are confident that the courts will hold Krystal Restaurants accountable for their discriminatory actions.”
